Malheureusement, it is over..we return home tomorrow. It’s be a marvelous trip with great weather; we had two overcast days and one morning of rain. Today, I took a long walk around the quartier, saying goodbye until next Spring. Rue Cler…Musée de l’Armée…Pont Alexandre III…a walk along the Seine. Au revoir Paris!
À la prochaine Jeff

We took the Métro to Place de La Concorde and then worked our way back to the apartment. This included a walk through the Jardin Des Tuileries and continuing on Champs-Élysées for a bit of shopping. Overcast but still delightful.
What an absolutely glorious day to spend at the Château de Versailles. By mid-afternoon, it was in the mid-60s with clear blue skies.
After almost thirty years of traveling to Paris, Claire and I still enjoy a day on a double-decker bus tour of the city. You do nothing and watch Paris go by. It’s a hop-on—hop off tour so we hopped off for a walking tour of Jardin de Luxembourg. We used the wonderful VoiceMap app, which is GPS-based. It knows where you are and tells you where to go and is loaded with info about your location. Highly recommend. This evening we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Fontaine de Mars, in the 7eme.
After yesterday’s fourteen hour event, today was a “Down Day.” A nice lunch, at Le Royal and a leisurely afternoon in Champ de Mars. What could be less right than a small carafe of Beaujolais and a Croque Madame? At the park, we did witness a dog attacking a man. The dog was growling and snarling and was within ½” of the man’s leg before he ran out of leash. Chihuahuas are a force to be reckoned with! I love the kid’s racing area in Champ de Mars and the hourly light show on La Tour Eiffel. À bientôt! Jeff Yesterday was a down day, hence, no post. In the evening, though, we had drinks with Oliver Gee, of the Earful Tower Podcast. Oliver is an expat Australian, living in Paris with his wife and son. If you are an English-speaking Francophile, listen to his podcast. Also, he and his wife have written a number of books. Their first book, Paris on Air, is about their experiences in Paris. This book was followed by three delightful children’s books, written by Oliver and illustrated by his wife, Lina.
Today, though, was a big day…our trip to Mont-Saint-Michel. Mont-Saint-Michel is located on the English Channel, in Normandy and/or Britney. The two provinces have argued for ages about this issue (it is probably in Normandy). It is a World Heritage Site and is one of the most popular destinations in France. We left Paris at 7:00AM and returned at 9:00PM…14 hours. Travel time, each way, is over 4 hours. It’s spectacular. Notwithstanding, no plan to do this again! We arrived mid-afternoon after an uneventful trip. The apartment is wonderfully located in the 7eme, with a glimpse of Tour Eiffel from the window. I took a leisurely walk around the quartier and Champ de Mars. This is the Paris that I love. BTW-Donkeys use English saddles in France. Who knew?
Our trip to Paris starts tomorrow afternoon. St. Louis-Philadelphia-Paris. We arrive, on Saturday, at about noon and hope to get to the apartment by 3:00PM. I probably won't post anything until Sunday.
À bientôt Jeff |
