I arrived in Paris yesterday, on a cold and rainy day. Border control, at the airport was a mess, as was the traffic into the city. Currently, the French rail workers are on strike. Typical of the French way of doing things, the strike days are scheduled...two out of every five days. Yesterday was one of those days. Fortunately, they publish a calendar so you can adjust your travels accordingly. The strike affects intercity rail and light rail. It does not affect the Métro, in the city.
Before leaving home I purchased a really interesting iPhone App - Detour. It’s a self-guided walking tour app and it’s really quite impressive. With Bluetooth earbuds and your phone in your pocket, you don’t look like a tourist. Today I did their “Grenelle: The Bread Wars.” Grenelle is a middle-class neighborhood in the 15th Arrondissement. There are many famous bakeries in the area. Unfortunately, not many interesting photo opportunities. Dinner at Bouillon Racine is always a good idea (Some of you might get the paraphrased joke!). La gaufre (waffle) avec crème brûlée. Who knew? À bientôt!
